TEAMGA (Year1)
Welcome to Team GA! We are very excited about this year! For the Year 1 pupils, this is a very important year, as they are transitioning from EYFS into KS1 and, therefore will gain lots more independence and important learning skills. We will be working on strengthening core skills from last year and diving deeper into all areas of our curriculum and progressing in all areas of learning.
In Maths, Year 1 is focused particularly on Number. All children will have plenty of opportunity to focus on their fundamental maths skills and rapid recall of their times tables facts. In English, The children will be exposed to lots of genres of writing across the year and they will be working on writing creatively and on spelling and grammar skills.
Science is a really exciting topic in Key Stage 1, and the children will be working with experiments in order to find out more about the world around them. They will work on key scientific skills such as organising, recording, observing, testing, enquiring and investigating. History and Geography are taught on alternate half terms, and we have some fascinating topics that the children are going to be learning about, ranging from the Titanic, Spreading the Word learning about Caxton and Bell, the Pacific and Underwater World, 100 Years of Food History and developing knowledge about Human & Physical Geographical Skills & Fieldwork!
As a proud Church of England school, RE will be consistently focused upon each week, with the children taking part in a daily worship and weekly RE lessons.
We are really excited for a positive year of learning, playing and helping each other to be the best we can be!
