Christian Values, RE and Collective Worship

Christian Values

At Peter Hills we have a strong commitment to our Christian Values.

Through Love we Demonstrate

Respect, Peace, Friendship, Thankfulness, Trust & Courage

We work closely with the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education who provide support and an advisory service to the Head teacher and staff. Our close links and visits to our three churches are important parts of the school calendar and regular visits from the school Vicars to lead assemblies ensure our Christian Ethos is central to school life.

All staff encourage and welcome the involvement of parents in the Religious Education of their children and the prayer life of the school. Parents are kept informed of events in a weekly newsletter and are always invited to join us for our celebrations in church.

Collective Worship

As a Christian school we come together daily to worship. Once a week we have a full Eucharist led by one of the clergy from our Parish to which all parents are carers are welcome.   This gives our pupils the experience of belonging to a Christian community which is distinctly Anglican.  Our schools’ six core values are explored at this time in a variety of ways to encourage and inspire our children to develop their understanding and through love demonstrate; Respect, Peace, Friendship, Thankfulness, Trust and Courage in their daily lives.

RE is a core subject taught across the school weekly.  From the EYFS onwards, pupils learn about Christianity.   As well as this, from Key Stage 1 they spend some time exploring the other five world faiths.  By the end of KS2 they will have also have some understanding of Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism.  Pupils learn about and from Religion in a creative way. They learn to express their own thoughts and feelings, identify the similarities and differences between faiths and show respect for these.
